Child Fatality Review

Unintentional injury is the leading cause of death among children in the U.S., according
to the CDC.

Child Fatality Review (CFR) is a collaborative, multidisciplinary process that helps
communities understand why child deaths occur and how to prevent them. CFR Teams
review the circumstances surrounding each death to identify risk factors, trends, and
opportunities for prevention.

Each team includes professionals from law enforcement, healthcare, social services,
emergency response, the county attorney’s office, and the local health department.

The goals of CFR Teams are to:
. Review child deaths to identify causes and contributing factors
. Share information among agencies
. Recommend strategies and policies to prevent future deaths
