Community Sanitation and Safety Programs

Community Sanitation Program

The Health Department offers services to improve the community’s sanitation and health. These services include Private Well Water Testing, Public Health Nuisance Complaints and Rabies Prevention.

Private Water Sources (wells, cisterns, springs, etc.) are sampled for bacteriological quality on a request basis. The samples are tested for fecal contamination (fecal coliforms and E. coli) only. There is a $50 fee for this service.

In the Public Health Nuisance Complaint Program, citizen complaints are investigated to determine if a Public Health threat exists.

Rabies Prevention Program

The Rabies Prevention Program involves investigation of animal bites, preparation and submission of samples for testing and conducting rabies vaccination clinics. Under Kentucky Law, any dog, cat, or ferret that is either suspected of having rabies or bites a human must be placed under quarantine for a ten-day period or it must be euthanized and submitted to the State Laboratory for testing. Kentucky State Law requires all dogs, cats, and ferrets over 4 months of age have a current rabies vaccination. All animal bites must be reported to the Health Department within 12 hours or by the next working day.
