National Preparedness Month Encourages Residents to Plan Ahead
September is National Preparedness Month, a time for individuals, families and communities to take practical steps to prepare for emergencies and disasters. The 2026 theme, “Americans Stand Ready,” highlights the importance of protecting loved ones, planning ahead and strengthening community resilience. Emergencies can happen with little warning, but preparation can help families respond safely and confidently.
The Green River District Health Department encourages residents to:
- Make a plan – Decide how your family will communicate, where you will go and what you will do during an emergency.
- Build a kit – Include food, water, medications, documents, and supplies for at least three days.
- Stay informed – Sign up for emergency alerts and learn about hazards in your community.
- Check on others – Reach out to family, friends and neighbors who may need assistance.
A few simple steps now can help families stay safer and recover more quickly during an emergency.
